Retirement Years are the Golden Years…Correct?

February 15, 2013 by Morris Hall, PLLC 4 Comments

Medical advances are allowing people to live longer than ever before. These medical advances are forcing the elderly population to make important decisions on where to reside when they can no longer reside at home. Luckily, there are more than 3,500 facilities of various levels of care and specialties in Arizona alone. Unfortunately, approximately one-third of these facilities have received a citation for some sort of elder abuse.

Sifting through the maze of in-home care or facilities, with their different levels of care, cleanliness, price, complaints/citations, accommodations and privacy can be overwhelming during normal circumstances. However, many family members are faced with these important decisions during an extremely emotional and stressful time in his or her life. The family may be in disagreement as to “what’s best,” and are likely feeling the stress of the large cost associated with such care.

Care Coordination:  During this stressful time of making long term care decisions for your loved ones, our law firm can assist you and your family with care coordination. Our geriatric care coordinators are here to assist your family with evaluating medical needs, placement options/costs and ongoing care coordination for years to come. When family members don’t reside locally with the family member needing assistance, the stress can become even heavier on the family and our team helps to alleviate that.

Medical Advocacy:  Our care coordinators provide medical advocacy by accompanying your loved one to medical appointments, asking pertinent questions, requesting services and treatment and gathering information to properly implement treatment care and therapies. In addition, the advocacy continues for the family with the care facility and periodic monitoring of the care facility to maintain the highest standard of care possible.

Medicare and Insurance Assistance:  As we know, interpreting health insurance coverage can be very complicating. Our care coordinators assist in reviewing health insurance coverage and exploring health insurance options; clarify health insurance bills/benefits; and assist the individual and family members to resolve health insurance issues.

As we know medical advances are great, however, we need to plan for these golden years. Please contact our care coordination division at 888.222.1328 to help assist you and your family with these important long term care planning decisions.
