Lauren Bacall Dies at Age 89

The Hollywood icon best known for her 1940’s film success, suffered a massive stroke on August 12, 2014.  Bacall made her first film in 1944 with future husband Humphrey Bogart; “To Have and Have Not” gained international success and was the first of several films in which the couple starred.  Bacall and Bogart married in 1945 and had two children together.

After Bogart’s death in 1957, Bacall was briefly engaged to Frank Sinatra.  Her later marriage to actor Jason Robards produced another child, actor Sam Robards.  Robards and Bacall later divorced and Bacall did not remarry.

Bacall won two Tony Awards, a Golden Globe Award, an honorary Oscar, and was nominated for three Emmy Awards.  Bacall’s first autobiography, “Lauren Bacall: By Myself,” won the National Book Award in 1980.  The husky-voiced beauty, known as a force to be reckoned with, died in her New York apartment.
