I am a volunteer Wish Granter for the Arizona Chapter of the Make-A-Wish Foundation. It is one of the most awesome things I have ever done. I love that I get to help these wonderful children who are critically-ill to receive their one true Wish.
I recently read about a young man, Jonathon, who wished to visit Kangaroo Island in Australia because of his love and fascination of kangaroos! Jonathon is battling leukemia and this was truly a once in a lifetime event that will buoy him up for the rest of his life. What an amazing experience!
One of the awesome aspects of a wish like this one is that not only does Jonathon make the trip to Australia, but his whole family, too! As most people can guess, a trip like this is only possible through generous donations from donors all across the state and country. This is what allows the Arizona Chapter the ability to grant hundreds of wishes each and every year.
Something most people do not know, however, is that money is not the only asset that can be donated to support this cause. Did you know you can donate your airline miles? That’s right! Delta, United, and US Airways all allow you to donate your airline miles to the Make-A-Wish Foundation to help families, like Jonathon’s make that long trip.
As an example, Jonathon’s trip used about 400,000 donated miles. That’s a lot of miles! But think about these key points:
– Airline miles donated to Make-A-Wish Arizona never expire!
– More than 77 percent of Arizona wishes include travel of some sort.
– The Arizona chapter needs nearly 150 million airline miles each year to help travel wishes take flight.
