On October 12, 1492 Columbus arrived in the Americas – discovering a land full of new hope and new beginnings. Today we celebrate this momentous event, an event that has provided us with our great country!
Though Columbus did not set out to discover a new world but to discover a new and better route to reach the East Indies for trade, we are grateful for his courage to set forth on uncharted territory. Although Columbus was not the first explorer to reach the Americas (Leif Ericson arrived there nearly 500 years earlier), he led to the first lasting contact and population of the new world.
We are proud to be citizens of this great nation and are thankful that Columbus landed on our shores so that we could have the opportunity to thrive in this land.
