When the world lost Pete Seeger on January 27, we lost a tremendous voice. His songs resonated in the 1950s and ’60s as much as they do today. And one of his most iconic songs is “Turn, Turn, Turn.”
As you listen to the lyrics, you can hear the varying dichotomies—the circle of life. “And a time to every purpose under heaven.”
As it relates to planning your estate, it is part of the circle of life. We know that, at some point, we will all pass away. The role of the estate planner is to make that transition period as easy as possible.
The song continues with “A time” to do a bunch of things. And it is important to find the time to plan your estate—to plan what you want to have happen with your possessions. But even more important, who you want to be making decisions on your behalf?
“A time to get, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away,” as the song continues, gives us all a warning that we should all heed. We can plan and keep our hard-earned “stuff” with our loved ones, or to not plan, and see our things go where the State says they should go.
“To everything Turn, Turn, Turn.” Take your turn to have your estate plan reviewed or created.
