Eddie Basha Passes Away on Tuesday at 75 Years of Age

March 28, 2013 by Morris Hall, PLLC 10 Comments

eddie basha jrEddie Basha Jr., the well-known face of the Bashas’ Family of Stores, passed away on Tuesday at 3:30 PM.  Basha was also known for his passionate dedication to the well being of the state of Arizona and her citizens.  Since the company was created, it has donated nearly $100 million to the local community.  Basha is admired for his philanthropic work in regards to healthcare, the arts, education and feeding the hungry.

In 1932, the Bashas’ Family of Stores was officially opened by Eddie Basha Sr and his brother, Ike Basha.  The Bashas’ Family of Stores has four different branches: Bashas’, Bashas’ Dine, AJ’s Fine Foods and FoodCity.  The company has over 130 stores across Arizona and some in California and New Mexico.

Basha is known for his kindness to others and especially to employees and clients of his company.  One employee described Basha as “a giver.”  She states, “He gave of his time.  He gave of his talent.  And he gave of his treasure.  He was the most generous man I’ve ever met.  And he will be missed.”

The Basha family released a statement after his passing.  “We want to share with you just how much Eddie loved Bashas’, its members and its customers.  From our earliest childhood, he always reinforced to us the importance of our members and giving back to our community…Eddie was always larger than life, and he gave his heart and soul to Bashas’ Family of Stores…During Eddie’s lifetime, he faced many challenges, the last few years being among the most challenging.  But his desire to serve the people of the state he loved so well, and to take care of the members that he cared for so much, always gave him strength in the face of adversity.”

We are saddened at the loss of such a giant in our community and such an example of kindness and charity.  Our hearts go out to all those who feel his loss, especially to his family and many close friends.
