It is impossible to calculate the good that has come from the efforts of all the volunteers who have for the last 50 years worked to make the lives of young people better and more productive. The good realized in these 50 years will be multiplied thousands of times over, as the recipients of these valuable services continue to build families and communities, and in turn contribute to the rising youth.
It is nice to pay tribute to a great legacy. It is wonderful to have the opportunity to build a legacy. And it is a blessing to be able to pass the legacy to others.
Much of what we are comes from the assets we are able to accumulate. The character we develop as we acquire these assets and use them for good is the greatest legacy we have to leave.
The successes of the Boys and Girls Clubs came only after careful planning, constant efforts to improve, and implementing needed revisions as circumstances changed.
In our personal endeavors, we must also plan, improve, review and revise if we wish to keep current with our current landscape, and to continue to progress. It is especially important for us to follow this pattern if we wish to leave a legacy.
Proper estate planning, revised as time and circumstances require, will insure that we not only leave our monetary assets to those we choose to help, but it will also make possible for us to leave the legacy of character, commitment and participation that will benefit our beneficiaries and the many others they will have the opportunity to touch.
