Mark D Simonson
Although born in Provo, Utah, Mark Simonson was raised in Arizona until leaving at age 19 to serve a two year mission for his church in Mexico. His mission not only taught him the wonders of Mexican food, but also helped him become fluent in Spanish and gave him a renewed appreciation for the privileges and opportunities afforded to those of us that live in the United States of America.
Upon arriving home, Mark attended Arizona State University, graduating Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelors degree in Management from the W.P. Carey School of Business. After his graduation, Mark learned the significance of living trust and power of attorney documents while working as a manager for World Savings and Wachovia Bank. Through his work at the banks he saw firsthand how important these documents are to preserve wealth, eliminate legal issues and maintain familial relationships after a death. He also witnessed the great confusion, sorrow and cost that can occur when families do not create these documents. This experience had a strong influence on his decision to practice law, and to focus that practice on estate planning.
Mark received his Juris Doctor from the Phoenix School of Law in 2011. While attending, he had the privilege to clerk for the Honorable Joseph B. Heilman (ret.) of the Maricopa County Superior Court. This experience led Mark to realize he wanted to do all he could to help his clients avoid the courtroom due to its expensive, time-consuming and contentious nature.
While attending the Phoenix School of Law, Mark had the opportunity to take an estate planning class taught by Dan Morris, senior partner of Morris, Hall & Kinghorn (MHK). Realizing that estate planning was where he wanted to focus his legal practice, Mark completed an internship at MHK and, upon passing the Arizona Bar Exam, was accepted as an Associate in the firm. Mark instantly fell in love with the firm, its principles and the way it cares for its clients, and is pleased to be a member of the team.
Mark is an avid sports fan, especially when it comes to the Arizona Diamondbacks and college football. He enjoys volunteering for his church and is proud to be an Eagle Scout. Mark and his beautiful wife have been blessed with three adorable little girls and currently reside in Gilbert, Arizona.
